Prevent Fungal Infections Before They Begin
The warmer weather is coming to a close, but while the heat and humidity are still in the air, it’s important to continue looking out for our feet. Fungal infections rise during the summer; you may catch one if you aren’t careful. A pedicure might be a great way to relax and treat your feet, but unsanitary conditions can lead to disaster. Summer sports and days at the public pool are also risky.
Fungal infections, including yeast infections and ringworm, can appear in the toenails, between the toes, and even on the bottoms of your feet. Fungus thrives in moist, warm environments, which is why it is commonly seen in athletes who utilize and share locker rooms, showering areas, and sweat.
Seven Easy Tips & Tricks for Preventing Infections:
Keep your feet clean, especially between your toes. Dry them thoroughly after washing.
Trim toenails correctly by cutting them straight across.
Keep your feet as dry as possible. Powders can help prevent moisture.
Change socks often, especially after sweating.
Wear shoes or flip-flops in public areas like pools, showers, and locker rooms.
Always use your own towels and personal care products.
Wear properly fitting shoes that have good air circulation.
